Charming early printing of this classic Caldecott Honor book (1945). Tasha Tudor selected and illustrated 77 traditional Mother Goose nursery rhymes with her signature delicate watercolors and black-and-white drawings. Features the original teal/green cloth binding with bright gilt cover illustration (shepherdess, goose, and boy) and gilt spine lettering. Illustrated color endpapers. Approximately 87 pages, square format.
Condition: Good to Very Good.
Original cloth binding shows moderate shelf wear, light soiling/staining, and rubbing/fraying at corners and spine ends, consistent with age. Gilt remains clear and attractive. No dust jacket (as is common with this title). Front pastedown has a previous owner’s decorative bookplate (“Cameron Beckwith – My Book”) and an old Miller & Rhoads bookstore price sticker. Interior pages are clean and bright with vibrant illustrations; no major tears, writing, or heavy foxing noted. Binding is tight and sound.
A lovely, solid copy of this desirable early Tasha Tudor title for collectors of children’s illustrated books or Caldecott Honor winners.
