The Goose Family Tales. Chicago: W. B. Conkey Company, 1905.
First edition. Decorative blue cloth binding with gilt lettering and elaborate color pictorial onlay depicting geese and frogs in a marsh setting. Illustrated throughout by Will Carqueville, including charming color plates and black-and-white decorations.
All illustrations are present.
A delightful Edwardian children's fantasy featuring Mother Goose and her extended goose family. The book is notable today for its whimsical illustrations by Will Carqueville, a prominent American illustrator and designer associated with the Art Nouveau movement and the Chicago poster school. The vivid color frontispiece and decorative cover design make this an especially appealing example of early twentieth-century juvenile publishing.
Condition: Very Good-. Blue pictorial cloth with bright gilt lettering. Moderate rubbing and wear to corners and edges; some loss and surface wear to the pictorial cover panel, most noticeable along the outer edge. Binding remains sound. Interior generally clean with light age toning. Color frontispiece present.
A handsome and increasingly uncommon, illustrated children's title.
No bookplate, no ownership marks, no writing.
